Pilsen Housing Cooperative - PIHCO

A nonprofit limited-equity housing cooperative. PIHCO is formed by families and artists with long-standing ties to Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood. The cooperative enables longtime residents to become owners of their homes rather than renters, while maintaining housing as a community resource instead of a profit-making investment. Its scattered-site buildings include locations on 19th Street, Racine, Morgan, 21st Place, and Oakley. PIHCO is also working to add more buildings to the cooperative. Residents and prospective co-op homeowners can sign up for news or registration information. The website provides educational resources about housing cooperatives, limited-equity models, cooperative ownership, and equitable development. PIHCO's work addresses housing stability, neighborhood displacement, and continued home ownership for immigrant families and other longtime Pilsen residents.
