Policy reform
Develops criminal legal reforms for youth, adults, and communities.
Established in 2014 as a continuation of the Justice and Violence Group at Metropolis Strategies, the Illinois Justice Project is a supporting organization of The Chicago Community Trust. It develops policies and practices aimed at reducing violence and prison recidivism while making the criminal legal system more equitable. Its work includes criminal legal system reforms intended to create opportunities and positive outcomes for youth, adults, and communities. The organization convenes diverse partners to identify paths to reform and works to ensure that people directly impacted by the system advance policy. It also draws on facts and data about disparities in legal outcomes and supports investment in community-based alternatives to incarceration, housing, jobs, and other supports for people returning from prison.
