Goseikan Kendo is a kendo dojo in Chicago and the greater Chicagoland area. Kendo is modern Japanese fencing using bamboo swords called shinai and protective armor called bogu. The dojo welcomes beginners, including people who have never practiced a martial art, as well as students with prior martial arts experience. Practices are offered in Chicago at Visceral Dance Center in Lakeview on Mondays and Rooted Space in North Center on Thursdays and Saturdays. Saturday sessions are also held at Thomas Middle School in Arlington Heights for kids and adults. Friday practices are offered through the Wheaton Park District for all ages. Visitors may watch or try a practice after contacting the dojo.
