Friends of the Children Chicago

A Chicago community and social services organization. Friends of the Children-Chicago identifies children ages four to six who face multiple systemic obstacles and pairs each child with a paid professional mentor, called a Friend. Mentors support social, emotional, and academic development while building connections among home, school, and community. The organization remains alongside each child for 12.5 years, no matter what. A dedicated team also supports caregivers and families in creating safe, secure environments. Its program serves youth in communities most impacted by poverty and gun violence, with children's voices central to how they develop their own stories of hope and resilience. Friends of the Children-Chicago is part of a national network with more than 30 chapters.
