Au Bon Pain is a café bakery built around bread, with handcrafted sandwiches and sweet pastries alongside soups and salads. Its menu also includes meals, satisfying snacks, and treats, with simple ingredients such as flour, salt, and sugar. The company began in 1978 after founder Louis Kane encountered French bakery ovens at Boston's Faneuil Hall Marketplace. An early store displayed its baking oven to customers, and requests to slice bread for sandwiches helped shape the business. Au Bon Pain describes its cafés as gourmet convenience for people where they live and work. It has more than 250 café bakeries around the world, including 80 in Thailand.
