ALT ___ Chicago

Art education is one of alt_'s services. The Chicago-based 501(c)(3) cultural nonprofit was created by Jon Veal and Jordan Campbell in response to trauma in the Black community and a belief in art's healing potential. alt_ uses art and faith to support revitalization, service, and empowerment, with a focus on creating opportunities on Chicago's South and West Sides. Its work includes art creation, installation, and collaboration, along with mentorship, job training, technical training, and communal space. The organization describes these efforts as tangible acts of service that bring communities together around alternative ways to cultivate culture, connection, and change. alt_ is also involved in the Redemptive Plastics program, which works with community members to redeem plastic.
