How Much Do English Language Classes Cost?
Compare typical US prices for English language classes, what affects tuition, and how to evaluate quotes from local providers.
Typical prices by job
| Job | What it involves | Typical range |
|---|---|---|
| Online group class | Small group, scheduled lessons | $10 - $30 per class |
| Private tutoring | One-on-one instruction | $20 - $60 per hour |
| Intensive language course | Frequent classes, structured curriculum | $300 - $1,500 per course |
Ranges are typical, not quotes - the price for your job depends on scope and location, so always confirm with the provider.
What affects the price
Price depends on class format, lesson length, and how often you meet. One-on-one instruction usually costs more per hour than group classes, while a multiweek course may have a lower effective rate when paid upfront. Test preparation, business English, and specialized pronunciation coaching can also raise tuition. Instructor experience, course materials, and location matter too. In-person classes in major cities may cost more than online lessons or classes in smaller communities. Check whether the quoted fee includes books, placement testing, and missed-class policies.
How to pay less
Compare the total course cost, not just the advertised hourly rate, and ask about trial lessons, package discounts, or group options. Confirm the class size, cancellation rules, materials, and any registration fees before paying. Collecting quotes through Reedleys means every number comes from a real, checked listing.
Cost questions
Some providers ask for a registration payment or partial tuition upfront, especially for group courses. Check whether it is refundable and what happens if you withdraw.
Quotes vary with instructor qualifications, class size, lesson format, course length, and included materials. Make sure you are comparing similar schedules and services.
Policies vary by provider, and materials or assessments may be billed separately. Ask for an itemized total before enrolling.
